Frequently Asked Questions

Please find below the answers to our most frequently asked questions.
Our Dog Chew is a smoked hard cheese that is all natural, and contains no chemicals, no preservatives and no additives. The people in the Himalayan region of Nepal have enjoyed this recipe for centuries. The product is a Yak milk based hard cheese that is now a favorite among dogs. The cheese flavor of the chew is very alluring, and the hard texture of the product makes it a perfect and a long lasting dog treat.
Yes, it really is just non fat Cheese with a pinch of salt and 100% natural.
  • Yak milk is collected from a group of farmers.
  • While the milk boils, it is continuously stirred with strong wooded paddles called “Kelu”. During the stirring process, lime juice is added.
  • As the milk starts to boil a thick layer of butter begins to form. This butter is extracted and put aside.
  • After 3 to 4 hours, white cheese starts forming, then is separated with the help of a large bamboo sleeve called a “Cherang”.
  • This fresh soft cheese is spread onto a piece of cotton cloth, that is then tied and pressed firmly to drain all excess water.
  • This “Yak Cheese” is cut into small pieces and smoked for 1 to 1.5 months using a wood fire oven for hardening.
  • This process is what creates this product that becomes a health dry dog chew with a delicious smoky flavor that your dog will love.
  • It also allows for the treats to be stored for several years without spoiling.

Our pre-packaged and private labeled bag contains oxygen obsorber and  bulk box packaging contains desiccant-pack a to absorb any moisture and oxygen in the bag, preventing any growth of microbes.
We have been conducting experiments since the year 2012, to figure out the expiration dates on our chews. We created 4 possible environments for home and retail stores (dry conditions) for six months, we take one from each sample container and send them for tests for the following:

  • Salmonella
  • coli
  • Yeast
  • Mold
  • Water Activity

Thus, it is safe to say that our hard Yak milk chews has expiration date of approximately 5 years from the date of opening the package, as long as they are in dry conditions.

As with any hard chews, please consider your dogs’ oral health before giving them these treats. Although the treats are hard, once the dog starts to gnaw on it, their saliva will start to soften the outside part of the chew, and they will start scraping off the treat.

Milk in its raw form is what is difficult for dogs to digest. Once it is made into cheese, the cooking process actually alters the protein making it more easily digested. Positive rewards-based obedience trainings often encourage the use of small pieces of cheese as motivators for behavior. In addition, our product is extremely hard and depending on the dog’s chewing habit – quite long lasting, and because of this, the amount of dairy that a dog can consume at any one time is extremely limited.
Generally speaking, about 10% of the dogs that try our product experience an initial loose stool or gas that always resolves. We have never had a problem with repeated or lasting GI issues. We have been giving this product to our dogs since the beginning, and we have had no problems over this sustained period of time.

Most or all lactose is removed with whey during the after the coagulation of the milk. So, the final product has little or no lactose to contribute towards the intolerance among dogs.

The amount of salt included in the creation of these chews is negligible. The people as a flavor enhancer, not for the flavor itself, include it.
Yes, but only if you have very strong teeth! From a nutritional and hygiene viewpoint it is manufactured to human grade standards and is safe to eat for humans.
